My story

Shari Mooney brings over 25 years of experience partnering with Eye Care Professionals to improve efficiency, productivity, and return on investment, all while supporting the highest standard of patient care.

What independent actually means here

Not a slogan. Three things about how I work that change what I can do for you.

  1. Several lines, not one catalog

I carry Marco, Optovue, iCare and Firefly, so a comparison can start with your room rather than with one manufacturer's catalog. That means I can tell you when the better answer is a different brand, including when it is one I do not sell.

I would rather you heard this from me: Marco and Eyefficient are both Advancing Eyecare companies, Optovue is a Visionix line, and iCare is Revenio. Four brands across three groups, not four independent manufacturers.

  2. The whole room, not one instrument

The catalog runs from the chair the patient sits in and the stand the instruments hang off, through the refractor and the slit lamp, to the OCT, the tonometer and the camera: 9 categories in all. A lane can be planned as one room by one person, so the chair, the stand and the instruments are chosen against each other rather than one at a time.

  3. One person, start to finish

This territory is my whole business, and I am your point of contact from the first conversation through demonstrations, ordering and whatever comes after. A practice that feels oversold this year is a practice that does not call me in three years. That is a better reason to trust the advice than any promise I could make about my values.

When the answer is no

Every one of the 37 product pages here carries a block called What to compare, and it names a real alternative rather than listing features again. Sometimes that alternative is a cheaper instrument, sometimes it is a different brand I also carry, and sometimes it is not buying anything this year.

“This is a program instrument, not a general pre-test one. If you are not actually running myopia management (no treatment options offered, no recall structure for repeat measurement) the growth curve has nothing to plot and the money belongs elsewhere in the lane. Buy it when the program exists or is committed to, not to start one.”

What I carry

37 products across 49 SKUs and 9 categories, from the chair the patient sits in through to the OCT. If what you need falls outside it, I would rather say so than talk you into the closest thing I happen to carry.

Where I cover

I cover North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa.

If your practice is in one of those five states, I come to you: demonstrations on your patients and your schedule where the manufacturer allows it, and the same person who quotes the instrument is the one who comes back after it is installed.

Mooney Vision Solutions, located in the Twin Cities, proudly serves Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, South Dakota and Iowa.

Rural and multi-location practices

The questions I get from practices that are a long way from a city, or that have more than one front door.

Do you cover rural practices, or only the larger towns?

All of North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa, not just the cities. A practice in Williston or Watertown gets the same visit as one in Fargo or Rochester.

We have locations in more than one state. Can one rep handle all of them?

Yes, as long as they fall inside the footprint. One person quotes every location, plans them so the rooms match, and is the same person who comes back after installation. If one of your locations is outside my territory I will say so up front instead of quoting it and then handing it off.

How does a demonstration work when we are a long drive from anywhere?

When possible, I arrange it in your practice, on your patients and your schedule. Some manufacturers require a demonstration at a host site; if that applies to the instrument you are looking at, I will find the closest practical option and tell you before you commit a day to it.

Do I need to know what I want before I call?

No. Most practices come to me with a problem and not a part number. Tell me what the room does now and what you want it to do, and I will tell you what fits. If the right answer is something I do not carry, you hear that from me first.

Which lines do you carry?

Marco Lombart for refraction, pretest, topography, slit lamps and lane furniture; Optovue (Visionix) for OCT and OCT-A; iCare for tonometry, perimetry, microperimetry and retinal imaging; and the Firefly digital slit lamp through Eyefficient. Between the four, that is the whole exam lane.

Talk it through with me

Tell me how your practice handles this now and what you want it to do, and we can work through the options together. You do not need to have settled on a product first.
