AT-8 & AT-9 Applanation Tonometers
Applanation tonometry, designed for Marco's slit lamps
The AT-8 and AT-9 are Marco's applanation tonometers, designed specifically to mount on the Ultra M Series and B Series slit lamps. Goldmann applanation remains the reference standard for intraocular pressure, and these are built trim enough not to fight the lamp they sit on.
What it does
- Applanation tonometry, the clinical reference standard for IOP
- Designed for Marco Ultra M Series and B Series slit lamps
- Slim, low-profile design that does not obstruct the slit lamp
Is it right for your practice?
Best fit
Any practice managing glaucoma, where applanation remains the measurement of record regardless of what else is in the pre-test room.
Why consider it
Goldmann applanation is widely treated as the reference standard for intraocular pressure, and in my experience most practices managing glaucoma still want an applanation reading behind the decisions that matter (diagnosis, a change in treatment, a surgical referral) whatever they screen with. The AT-8 and AT-9 are built slim enough not to fight the lamp they sit on, and they are designed for the Marco Ultra M Series and B Series slit lamps.
What to compare
This is an accessory to a slit lamp, not a standalone purchase, so the comparison is not against another tonometer - most practices that own one of these also own a non-contact or rebound instrument for screening and use applanation for the decisions. If your difficulty is measuring patients who cannot get to the slit lamp at all, applanation is not the answer and the iCare IC200 is the instrument to look at.
