AFC-330 Automated Fundus Camera

Non-mydriatic fundus photography that runs itself

The AFC-330 is a non-mydriatic fundus camera with the computer built in, which means no separate tower under the table. Three-dimensional automatic alignment handles tracking, focus and capture, and it switches from anterior to posterior focusing on its own. Automatic panoramic imaging and auto-paired stereo photography are built in, and the flash is low intensity with a quiet shutter, which matters more to patients than most people expect.

Non-MydriaticAutomated Capture

What it does

  • Non-mydriatic fundus photography with built-in camera and computer
  • 3D automatic alignment with auto tracking, focus and capture
  • Automatic switching from anterior to posterior focusing
  • Automatic panoramic imaging
  • Auto pairs for stereo photography
  • Low flash intensity and quiet shutter sound
  • 8.4-inch tilting color touchscreen
  • Multiple data management utilities and operator assist functions

Is it right for your practice?

Best fit

Comprehensive practices adding retinal documentation, and practices building a wellness or screening program around fundus imaging.

Why consider it

Non-mydriatic means no dilation for routine documentation, which removes the main reason patients decline retinal photography. The automation - 3D alignment with auto tracking, focus and capture, and automatic switching from anterior to posterior focusing - means a technician can run it, which removes the main reason practices under-use the camera they already own. Low flash intensity and a quiet shutter sound like marketing until you have had a patient flinch through a series of retakes. The computer is built in, so there is no separate tower under the table.

What to compare

This is the conventional non-mydriatic camera I carry, and there are two others I carry built on different technology. The iCare DRSplus shares the EIDON's TrueColor confocal engine and images through smaller pupils and some media opacity that a conventional flash camera struggles with; the EIDON with the widefield module goes considerably further again. If your patients dilate poorly or you want widefield, compare those before this. The AFC-330's case is a well-automated conventional camera at a conventional camera's price.
