iCare MAIA TrueColor Microperimetry
The iCare MAIA is a TrueColor microperimetry system that combines retinal sensitivity mapping, real-time fundus tracking at 25 Hz and non-mydriatic confocal fundus imaging in a single automated exam. By measuring macular function point by point while imaging the retina, it shows the functional impact of macular disease that structural imaging alone does not, which gives the doctor another way to show a patient how macular function is changing over time, and can support a more concrete conversation about treatment. With 60-degree TrueColor and infrared imaging, optional red-free, blue and red software, and customisable test grids, the MAIA gives retina and macular practices structure-function data for diagnosis, treatment monitoring and patient discussion.
What it does
- Microperimetry with automated retinal tracking at 25 Hz, compensating for fixation loss during the test
- TrueColor confocal fundus imaging over a 60° field on a 5 MP sensor at 17 µm resolution
- Non-mydriatic through pupils as small as 3 mm, at 28 mm working distance
- Four preset grids: 10° and 6° three-ring patterns at 37 points, a 20° four-diagonal pattern at 41 points, and a 20° 10-2 pattern at 68 points
- Custom grids via the built-in grid editor
- Full threshold 4-2 with fixation analysis, suprathreshold with scotoma finder, and fixation-only testing
- Six automatic operations including auto-retinal and auto-pupil tracking
- 15" embedded multi-touch display; 1 Gbit Ethernet and 802.11ac/b/g/n Wi-Fi
- Red-free, blue and red imaging available through optional software
Is it right for your practice?
Best fit
Retina practices, macular disease specialists and comprehensive offices managing AMD, diabetic macular edema or other macular pathology, where the question is how the disease affects vision rather than what it looks like.
Why consider it
Structural imaging shows the disease. Microperimetry measures retinal sensitivity point by point and maps it onto a TrueColor fundus image, with automated tracking at 25 Hz compensating for fixation loss during the test. iCare's materials support detection and monitoring of functional change, treatment-efficacy assessment, structure/function correlation, fixation analysis and progression reporting. In practice that gives the doctor another way to show a patient how macular function is changing over time, which can support a more concrete treatment conversation.
What to compare
Microperimetry is an addition to structural imaging, not a replacement for it; a practice without OCT should almost certainly buy that first. MAIA also needs a genuine macular case load to justify itself; if you are referring most macular management out, the instrument will sit idle.
Ask me about
Whether your macular volume supports it, how the reports fit the way you already document treatment response, and what the footprint means for your lane: it is 360 × 590 × 620 mm and 27 kg on the same chassis as the EIDON.
