TRS-6100 Digital Refractor
Digital refraction, built around the patient's comfort and yours
The TRS-6100 is Marco's flagship automated refractor, and it is the instrument most of Shari's practices end up building a lane around. It runs the whole subjective refraction from a remote touchscreen and keyboard you can work one-handed, which spares your neck and shoulders the wear that manual phoropters cause over a career. Patients see their old and new prescription side by side at the end, and that comparison does more for optical sales than any script you could write.
What it does
- Remote touchscreen and ergonomic keyboard for one-handed operation
- Programmable monocular fogging suppresses accommodation for more realistic both-eyes-open refractions
- Instant side-by-side comparison of the patient's old and new prescription
- Tilting screen and angled refractor head for realistic near testing
- Favorites page for the charts you reach for most
- Forehead rest range of 25 plus or minus 2 mm to fit more patients
- Integrates with Marco pre-test instruments and most EMR/EHR systems
Is it right for your practice?
Best fit
Practices doing enough refractions per day that minutes matter, and any doctor who has started to feel manual refraction in their neck and lower back.
Why consider it
The time comes back in pieces, not all at once. Data flows in from pre-test instead of being retyped, charts are linked to the test you selected, and the patient verifies faster because they are comparing two images rather than trying to remember what one looked like. The old-versus-new comparison at the end is the part Marco leads with: the patient sees the difference instead of being told about it, which changes the conversation about new eyewear before it reaches the optical. And one-handed operation from a remote keyboard takes the repeated neck and shoulder strain of manual refraction out of the exam.
What to compare
The TRS-3100 does the same core job - fast, repeatable, one-handed, connected to pre-test and EMR - in a smaller head at a lower investment. If your deciding factor is room size or budget rather than feature ceiling, the 3100 may be the better fit. Look at the 6100 specifically if you want the larger control surface, the tilting near-testing screen, or if you are building toward an EPIC workstation later, since the 6100 is the refractor at its core.
Ask me about
How many refractions a day it takes before the time actually returns in your schedule, whether your EMR is one of the systems it connects to cleanly, and what the 3100 would cost you against it in the same lane.
